Who Needs Medical Examination?

Immigrants would need to undergo a medical examination under following instances. They are:

  • The individual has lived as a temporary resident for more than six months in countries/ territories like Afghanistan, Algeria, Angola, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, etc. Just one year before immigrating to Canada.

  • Medical Immigration Exam is required if the individual is coming to work in public health sector. For instance, if an individual requires to work in health science or act as patient attendants in nursing homes. Even workers who are going to provide in-home care to children; teachers of primary and secondary schools; medical workers and physicians, etc.

Who Conducts Exam?

Whether you are a student, or a worker, or a temporary resident, you would need to go for a through medical examination. The Medical Immigration Exam is conducted by panel physicians. They will do a thorough physical examination like Chest X-ray and laboratory tests like HIV, Syphilis, etc are done. Once the tests are completed, the medical report is sent directly to the immigration office.

In order to get the exams done, one can wait for the instruction from the immigration office. It is suggested that the Medical Immigration Exam should be carried out within 30 days of getting instruction from the visa office. if the time line is not followed, the immigration application may not be accepted.

Once the medical examination is conducted, the panel physician will provide a document that would confirm that all medical tests have been done. Sometimes they can offer IMM 1017B Upfront Medical Report Form. The form needs to be attached to the immigration application.

Temporary residents appearing for the Medical Immigration Exam must bring proper identification papers, eyeglasses, IMM 1017 E form, and reports of former medical condition. applicants can seek a copy of the medical report from the doctor.
